LIBERALISATION POLICY AND COFFEE MARKET
New economic policy were introduced in 1991 by hon.finance minister Dr.manmohan singh. Liberalisation,Privatisation,Globalisation were the policies of New Economic policy. Both the three led the economy to a prosperous one. But these made some evil effects too.Since every coin has two sides each good policy has an evil effect.
As a part of liberalisation coffee market were liberalised.Actually this was not good for coffee planters.when 'coffee board' were in action stable price for coffee were there and hence planters will get a fixed price. They can avoid fear of price changes. In addition to that board pays bonus to planters.Only one beneficiary as a result of liberalisation is intermidiary. He started fixing prices and controls the market.Poor planters were exploited by them. Also climate became changed and their production decreased.
Now india singned in ASEAN Pact. This will also effect poor coffee cultivators.Their will be an strong import in low cost coffee and market of indian coffee will again go down.Coffee is one which is included in negative list of asean pact. This paves a small chance to be cool.Overall this pact is not good in case of coffee and other crops. This pact will be good for some other states where secondary sector has more prominanace. But for a state like kerala it is not good.
Our soil and geography is good for agriculture but our politics and its policies is not alowing it to prospherous.at the time of independance 72% population where engaged in agriculture. But in 2001 only 54% is there. As a country like india it is not good.
Lets hope for good policies and a good agrarian economy......
